Softporn Adventure was originally written in 1981 for the Apple II, by Chuck Benton, who wanted to teach himself how to program on that machine. Encouraged by friends, Benton self-published the game, and eventually it ended up getting bought by Ken Williams, of On-Line Systems (which would later be renamed to Sierra On-Line).
The front-cover features 3 prominent On-Line employees (the right-most of which is none other than the famous Roberta Williams), and this cover was widely used for advertising, which ensured plenty of controversy at the time.
The story of Softporn adventures is loosely based on events in Bensons' private life (or so it is claimed), and was later on used by Al Lowe and rewritten into the story for Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards.
The DOS version of the game was originally ported to PC by Gary Thompson in 1991. After Al Lowe contacted him to get Gary's permission for adding it on a collector's edition of Leisure Suit Larry's Greatest Hits and Misses, Thompson rewrote the game in 1994. That version is the one offered for download here.
