Adventure Simon The Sorcerer 1

On Simon's 12th birthday, somehow a mysterious dog shows up. Simon's parents didn't want to tell Simon the dog wasn't a gift from them, so Simon assumed it was, and named the dog Chippy.

One day, Chippy rummages around on the attic, and finds an old spell book in a chest. Simon accidentally reads a spell from the book, and ends up opening a portal to a magical fantasy land, through which both of them are teleported.

The two end up in the house of the wizard Calypso, who left a letter explaining he was behind Chippy's arrival at the party as well as the spell book and who needs Simon to help free him from the evil wizard Sordid.

The game offers the ability to move from locations discovered previously by means of a map. This will save the player a lot of walking, as it is a convenient way to move between locations.

Simon The Sorcerer is a gorgeous little game, with graphics that still look sparkling and very well done. The humor in the game carries hints of Monty Python and Pratchett. The ability to skip cut-scenes is great, though the one thing I really missed was a way to skip or forward dialogue.


Both Gog and Steam offer the 25th anniversary of the game, which has been rewritten to use a newer engine. This will add some convenience, in the form of default right-click options, but the graphics are (according to reviews) not very great compared to the original. However, the original game can be played from the 25th anniversary edition.
