Warning: There is a bug in the game that prevents an object from spawning, unless you restart the game immediately. Also, the pathfinding in this game is quite a problem. Not only will NPCs constantly bump into you, and seem to apologize, or make you wander around the screen while you try to avoid ending up in their path, but I experienced Ratpouch disappearing on me. If this happens to you, he usually can be found near the sewer where you exited the prison, and then can be made to follow you again. The same can apply to other NPCs. Rather than walking around as they should be, they can end up stuck in a particular screen. If you are looking for someone particular, you might end up having to visit every screen until you find them.
Diermont is a poor peasant who spots an opportunity to make some money by helping the king and his hunting party out. While they are on their hunt, the king receives a message about an uprising in the town of Turnvale. Diermot tries to head home, but accidentally ends up within the party headed to the town.
When they get there, though, it turns out the story about the rebellion was a ruse, and instead the King and his men are ambushed by a band of Skorl, commanded by the enchantress Selena. The King and the rest of the party are massacred by the Skorl. Diermot falls off his horse, and loses consciousness. When he awakes, he finds himself locked up in a cell.
Diermot needs to find a way out of the cell, and with help from the villagers, try to defeat Selena.
As noted above, the pathfinding AI implemented through Virtual Theater can prove to be quite challenging and at times frustrating. It also take a bit of time to get used to the user interface. You can interact (look at) objects or people, or right-click on them for additional options (like asking or talking to people, operating objects, . Right-clicking on the background will allow you to drink, look at the scene you are in, examine things in your inventory, or check the inventory (status).
Additionally, if or when you have a nearby NPC, you might be able to order them to perform tasks by stringing together commands (ordering them to go to a specific location and then perform an action (or multiple actions)).
