J. R. R. Tolkien's Riders of Rohan as the name implies, is based on the Lord of the Rings books. In the game, you command the armies of "good", primarily the Riders of Rohan, along with a number of heroes, including Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, Eomer, and hobbits Pippin and Merry.
The game primarily is strategy-based, having you move armies across the plains of Rohan. Whenever you encounter an enemy army, there is a chance to have heroes engage in an arcade-type of game. Typically this would be a duel between a hero and an enemy where you need to kill your enemy before you succumb to your wounds, or Legolas shooting approaching orcs while attempting to avoid their spears. However, for those who would prefer sticking to strategy, the game's AI can handle those fights for you.
At various times, you will be asked to take decisions, like where heroes should go next, or guide dialogue between characters. Most of the times, it pays off to stick to the original books.
