Simulation Hoyle: Official Book of Games - Volume 1 1

In Hoyle, the player can participate in card games against AI driven opponents. First, they will have to pick from one of the following games:

• Crazy Eights
• Old Maid
• Hearts
• Gin Rummy
• Cribbage
• Klondike

Rules for the different games can be pulled up while playing, and the manual will have a more elaborate explanation in case it's needed. Some games might have multiple ways of playing available (Klondike for example allows for Draw 1, Draw 1 (unlimited cycling of the deck) or Draw 3 (unlimited cycling of the deck).

Depending on the game, you will then have the ability to pick opponents from a total of 18 different characters. These include both serious as well as less serious players, including Sierra employees and their family members, or characters from Sierra games.

Some options are Sonny Bonds (from the Police Quest series), King Graham and Rosella (King's Quest), Larry Laffer, and Roger Wilco from Space Quest.

The skills of your opponents will differ depending on what game you play. They will introduce themselves, and indicate their level of expertise once you are in the selection process.

Should the player not respond in a timey fashion, the opponents will start talking to themselves or one another. Larry might comment on a potential date, while Graham might try and convince others to visit the kingdom of Daventry, etc.
